The newly launched Aspire One 10” netbook by Acer will be available in UK soon. Initially it was told that Acer’s new Aspire One 10” netbook will come with Windows XP Operating System but confirmed reports say that Acer is planning to come up with Linux and SSD (Solid State Drive) options for its 10” Aspire One netbook. This news was released last week by an Acer spokesperson.

This is good news for Linux as it was loosing ground to Windows XP and the windows 7 OS, its beta is already in testing stage, in future. This news was expected as Acer’s previous 8.9 inch Aspire One netbook too had these options. With the growing popularity of this new version, due to good sized keyboard and display, Acer plans to extend its user base, so the follow up releases will have these newer options. Also, Acer plans to stop shipping the previous 8.9 inch model after releasing the 10 inch netbook.

10”Aspire One offers 10 inch LED backlit display with good 1024×600 mega pixels   resolution, 1 GB memory, webcam, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Some models also offer WiMAX and 3G technologies for unlimited connectivity. It comes with large 160 GB Hard disk drive. The 10 inch Aspire One netbook will not have the second SD card slot like the earlier 8.9 inch Aspire one.

Now with the new version, the users will have a choice to use either Linux or XP Operating System. Typically, the Linux models will be shipped with Linpus Linux Lite distribution. The Linux versions will offer a simplified UI. The users will be offered a choice for either SSD (Solid State Drive) or HDD (Hard Disk Drive) solution. The SSD will provide additional 16 GB of storage capacity. The Aspire One is powered by Intel Atom N270, 1.60 GHz processor, just like all others these days. Later on a new version will be powered by Atom’s N280 processor. Acer Aspire One 10 inch netbooks comes with 3 cell and 6 cell batteries, with 6 cell battery giving about 7 hours of life.

Unfortunately, the details about pricing and availability of these options have not been disclosed as yet, which means it is not coming any time soon.  So, chances are that the Aspire One netbooks which will be available from this month, around mid of February, will not have these options and they will be Windows-XP equipped. The netbooks will be available in four colors; white, blue, red and black and will cost around £ 299.
