At the recently held Consumer Electronic Show 2009 at Las Vegas, Nevada from Jan 8th to January 11th, Dell, world’s second largest computer maker, launched several new netbooks and one of them was Inspiron Mini 10. It is their latest addition to the small sized, portable PC’s, Mini range of netbooks and comes after the Mini 9 and Mini 12 netbooks which were launched last year, all were launched in a span of few months. Mini 10, powered by a new processor, is not only different in size than the previous two but comes with Wi-Fi, built in GPS, TV tuner and a multi touch trackpad.

Though the chassis is the same, the Inspiron Mini 10 is glossier than the Mini 9. The lid, available in black or white colors for now, is glossier and netbook is about 2 inches longer than the Mini 9 netbook.  The Mini 10 falls somewhere in between Mini 9 and 12 in terms of screen size. Inspiron Mini 10 has 1024 x 576 pixels, high resolution, 10 ” display. The 720 p, edge-to-edge screen is a widescreen 16:9 model.

No space has been wasted and the edge to edge keyboard proves just that. Compared to the Mini 9 and Mini 12, the expanded keyboard provides a better feel. The full function keys have retained their position on the top and two shift keys are decently sized.  The traditional and usual mouse buttons have been replaced and in its place is a built-in trackpad just like Apple’s MacBooks. The users have to press bottom corners to make their selections while in Apple MacBooks, one has to press the entire pad.

Powered by Intel Z 530 (Silverthorne), 1.6GHz processor, (companies really have no option there); the Inspiron Mini 10 comes with many built in features. The Mini 10 has a built-in TV tuner so that you do not miss the action while on the move. The netbook comes with an integrated GPS (Global Positioning System). It has built in 3G WWAN and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Dell’s Inspiron Mini 10 offer 3 cell or 6 cell battery versions. According to Dell, the battery will be newly improved one by the new processor Intel’s Atom Z 530 and will give a decent enough battery life. No details have been out yet about the memory and storage capacity of the netbook. There has been no release yet on the pricing and availability of the netbooks. The Mini 10 netbooks will be available in few months from now in as many as eight colors.
